Belgaum is known as the ‘Bread Basket or Rice Bowl’ of north Karnataka. This district is this also known as the ‘Sugar Bowl’ of Karnataka due to the highest number of sugar factories established there. From the early 70’s in the last century Belgaum began developing into an important center for the manufacturing of heavy machine tools. This is also one of the major textile centers in the state and a major producer of milk in the state with almost 1/3 or 30% of state’s production coming from this district.

Our program at Yadwad in district Belgaum is a recently initiated program. At present we are in the entry phase at this location and aim to understand the needs and priorities of the community in our target villages. In the process we have started to promote self help groups (SHGs) and are building their capacities. To empower them.We have also started to provide health services through multi-specialty health camps. These camps are attended by specialized doctors like pediatrician, ENT specialist, gynecologist, dentist, general physician and others. Villagers are screened for cataract, plastic surgery, kidney stone, ulcers etc and provided the medical aid required along with commuting facility to help them reach hospital for the treatment required.

To provide clean drinking water to our neighboring communities, we have also established the Reverse Osmosis plants in some villages. Under water management program, our foundation has demonstrated drip irrigation in few areas.

We have also started to propagate fuel efficient stoves that help the communities to reduce their carbon footprints and also help them face the challenge of depleting fuel wood resources.
